FROM ROPES TO TREES
INTEGRATED DESIGN
This project had a dual purpose: to propose a concept for the future redesign of an elementary school courtyard in northern Quebec and to construct a playful installation for the students. All aspects had to be considered a maximum and harmonious use of the space.
We envisioned the redesign as a pathway stretching from the entrance to the far end of the schoolyard, incorporating a series of obstacles such as aerial obstacle courses, ultimately leading to an outdoor green classroom.
The playful and rhythmic modules encourage young individuals to hang, climb, suspend themselves, and exercise while having fun!
The landscaping draws inspiration from the forests of the North Shore, notably through the selection of vegetation. The ground is composed of tundra, cork, sand, and vegetation, while the entertainment installations are made up of assemblies of tree trunks and ropes, all built using natural materials that are part of the ancestral Innu culture.
Our proposal was selected by the jury and received an honorable mention for its sensitivity to the context and creativity.
